Parked regen every six hours on a machine that mostly sits idling - normal?

The machine spends a lot of its day at low idle - utility work, more time waiting on the crew in the trench than actually digging. Lately it wants a parked regen about every six hours and the operator is fed up.

Is that just the aftertreatment coping with cold exhaust, or have I actually got a fault brewing?

Mostly it is the duty cycle. Low idle never brings the exhaust up hot enough for a passive regen, so soot piles up and forces the parked ones.

Get the operator to sit on a fast idle while waiting instead of dropping right down. Costs a little fuel and saves you the standing-around regens.
